Lots of Great News To Share!
ChefSquad, an Award, and a New Employee!
Hey squad! It’s me again—Ryan, that is.
We at Vertigo Gaming Inc. have had a busy month, to say the least. In addition to launching ChefSquad—a Twitch chat game where streamers and their communities work together to run a restaurant—we’ve had some other developments that we’re very excited to share!
ChefSquad Is a Success!
It was hard to predict how ChefSquad might be received upon launch. For one thing, we worried that fans of Cook, Serve, Delicious! would be disappointed that our surprise announcement wasn’t about that series, and moreover that it wasn’t even about a single-player game they could download and enjoy in the traditional way. Furthermore, ChefSquad is not only a new IP but a whole new type of game that relies on Twitch streamers and their communities to find and enjoy. As such, we kept our expectations low and designed the game to be beneficial to us even if it totally flopped.
That said, I’m happy to report that ChefSquad is performing way beyond our expectations! Not only are Twitch streamers playing ChefSquad, but communities are telling streamers about the game and asking them to play, which is really cool. We’ve dropped in on many of the streams and people seem to be enjoying the game whether they’re a streamer or a player in the chat. The game has helped Twitch streamers interact and play with their communities in a fun new way—just as we hoped!
If you’re a streamer, you can download ChefSquad for free on Steam and Itch.io. If you’re a viewer, you can see who’s streaming it and hop into a game on Twitch right here!
Cook, Serve, Delicious! 3?! Is an Award-Winning Game!
We were honored for CSD3 just to be nominated for an IndieCade award for Best Audio Design—and we’re positively delighted that it won! That’s right, CSD3 is now an award-winning game! As per IndieCade’s website, “The Audio Design award honors the craft of auditory engagement, used to drive interaction and build theme, context, and meaning,” which basically means it’s an award given to recognize all-around great work in audio.
This award is especially for Jonathan Geer, composer of the incredibly addictive soundtrack, and Jeff Ball, creator of the brilliant sound effects! You can listen to and buy the award-winning soundtrack to CSD3 right here!
Darryl is Now a Full-Time Employee!
Darryl Davis, known to the internet as babyjeans, has been an incredible asset to the team so far, serving to help program CSD3 and more recently to program ChefSquad all by himself. As such, we’re absolutely delighted to announce that Darryl is now a full-time employee of Vertigo Gaming Inc.—Darryl joins David and Erik as the third full-time member of the growing team. We wish him a hearty congratulations and we look forward to working with him even more on our future projects!
To celebrate the occasion, next month’s newsletter will be a developer spotlight about Darryl, so look forward to that!
Thanks for reading! I’ll talk to you again in December!
